Female urethral diverticulum

Recurrent cystitis with impediment sensation of the urine passage and painful coitus.

Patient Data

Age: 34
Gender: Female
Modality: MRI

In the proximal vagina exists oval hyperintense formation with regular margins that surrounding the urethra.

Cystography with voiding phase

Modality: Fluoroscopy

During urination is appreciable filling of a diverticulum located on the back urethra, about 15 mm to external urethral orifice. Normal bladder and the opening of the bladder neck.

Case Discussion

Urethral diverticulum is a relatively common disease, favored by inflammation of Skene's glands with abscess collected that develop in the submucosa, and which may also take on a considerable size. In some cases they may surround the urethra and go to the bladder neck, lifting and compressing it.
