Femoral head fracture (Pipkin type II)

Presentation

Road traffic accident with severe right hip pain.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years
Gender: Male

Fracture head of right femur cranial to fovea. There is already an intramedullary nail in situ for an old upper diaphyseal fracture of femur. Secondary cranial and posterior subluxation of femur. No fracture of the acetabulum. 

Case Discussion

This patient was unlucky enough to run into a second road traffic accident in a short span, managing to injure the same bone. Read up the Pipkin classification to figure out the type of femoral head fractures.
