Absent foetal cardiac activity, swelling of the foetal skin, markedly reduced liquor, absent foetal movements and overlap/deformity of the skull plates are all indications of foetal death.
Case Discussion
Spalding sign consists of deformity with overlap of the skull plates on ultrasound, occurring some days after fetal death in utero. It was originally described as a radiographic finding.
