Fetal pericardial effusion

Patient Data

Age: 25
Gender: Female

Ultrasound showed fetal pericardial effusion with mutiple other cardiac anomalies such as muscular VSD, discordant contraction of both ventricles and irregular heart rate.

Case Discussion

Cardiac anomalies are rarely diagnosed on antenatal ultrasound but contribute to about 30% of all anomalies. Commonly seen with hydrops fetalis, they may also be seen as complex cardiac defects such was seen in our case.
