Case contributed by Mellanie Deborah

Routine screening mammogram. Patient underwent stereotactic biopsy back in 2017 to diagnose left breast nodule.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Benign bilateral calcifications and a densely calcified nodule in the upper outer quadrant of the right breast in concordance with an involuted fibroadenoma.

A stereotactic biopsy marker can be seen in the upper inner quadrant of the left breast.

Case Discussion

This patient attended with an ultrasonography report, which informs of two benign stable nodules in the upper inner quadrant of the left breast, of 7.6 mm and 15.8 mm, the latter one in concordance with the biopsy marker.

In some cases, fibroadenomas have an atypical appearance on mammography and ultrasonography and biopsy may be required. In this case, the radiological appearance of the nodule with its popcorn-like calcification is enough to diagnose it as a fibroadenoma.
