Presentation
Nodule on the right side of the neck on physical examination.
Patient Data
Neck ultrasound:
The right sternocleidomastoid muscle shows a fusiform thickening and shows mass like abnormality involving the muscle belly measures 3 x 1.5 cm with mild blood flow on color Doppler U/S interrogation.
The sonographic feature is compatible with fibromatosis colli of the right sternocleidomastoid muscle.
Otherwise, no cervical adenopathy is seen and the left sternocleidomastoid muscle is normal in thickness measures 0.5 cm.
Case Discussion
A newborn baby girl found to have nodule at the right side of her neck, her physician requested an ultrasound of her neck to further evaluate the nodule, with an enlarged lymph node one of the possibilities. Upon evaluation, a fusiform thickening within the right sternocleidomastoid muscle was seen, not a discrete mass, with intralesional signal uptake on color Doppler interrogation compatible with fibromatosis colli.
