Presentation
Follow up case of prostate cancer. Prostatectomy done previously.
Patient Data
Transverse section view of the bladder on the low-frequency curvilinear probe (3-5 Hz) shows a mixed elongated fibrotic lesion along the track of the suprapubic catheter. On questioning, we learnt that the suprapubic catheter had been there for a long time and removed only recently. Internal echoes can also be seen floating in the bladder.
Case Discussion
Chronic suprapubic catheters are associated with bladder mucosal irritation leading to urinary tract infection, hematoma and fibrotic bands. In very rare cases, it can even induce squamous cell carcinoma.
Fibrotic bands in the bladder can develop due to prolonged suprapubic catheterization.
