Presentation
Incidental finding detected by radiography after car accident.
Patient Data
Eccentric osteolytic metaphyseal lesion in the proximal tibial (17 mm) with sclerotic margins and interruption of posterior cortex.
Osteolytic lesion medial cortex near the proximal tibial metaphysis with sclerotic margins to the bone. No extension to the surface of the soft tissues.
The transition zone is “narrow” and is no surrounding edema.
Case Discussion
Fibrous cortical defect is a benign lesion and affects young people up to 15 years. It is asymptomatic and is usually discovered accidentally. In fibrous cortical defect or nonossifying fibroma, bone tissue is replaced by fibrous tissue. Finishing skeletal growth causes spontaneous healing of these lesions with replacement of fibrous tissue with bone tissue.
