Fibrous dysplasia

Presentation

Presented with pain and swelling in the right thumb.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female
X-ray

Expansile 1st metacarpal bone with diffuse ground-glass opacity and thinned cortex.

No fracture or soft tissue component. No periosteal reaction.

Case Discussion

The lesion was biopsied and the diagnosis of fibrous dysplasia was confirmed. Further evaluation by whole body bone scan and skeletal survey were done for the patient and showed no other lesion. Therefore the final diagnosis was monostotic fibrous dysplasia.
