Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female
ct

There is an expansile ground-glass lesion with a homogeneous matrix obliterating partially the right maxillary sinus and extending to the alveolar processes. No osteolytic or soft tissue component is seen.

mri

On MRI sequences this maxillary lesion appears of intermediate signal on T1, low signal on T2 and FLAIR with moderate enhancement. No soft tissue component is seen.

Case Discussion

The CT features are most consistent with fibrous dysplasia of the right maxilla.

MRI is not particularly useful in differentiating fibrous dysplasia from other entities as there is marked variability in the appearance of the bone lesions.
