Presentation

Trauma to left lower limb. Deformity of leg below the knee.

Patient Data

Age: 12 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

Lateral angulation of a tibial diaphyseal greenstick fracture. There is an associated lateral bowing of the fibula but no break in the cortex is seen.

Case Discussion

Children's bones are more plastic than adults so that bowing and greenstick fractures frequently occur in the long bones.

Bowing fractures are one of the incomplete fractures. They usually coexist with a fracture of the other paired bone.
