Fibular tip avulsion fracture with pseudo-Jones fracture

Avulsion fracture from the tip of the fibula. Soft tissue swelling over the lateral malleolus is noted. Avulsion fracture of the 5th metatarsal styloid (pseudo-Jones fracture) is also seen.
Case Discussion
The most common type of ankle sprain is an inversion injury, or lateral ankle sprain. Avulsion fracture of the 5th metatarsal styloid may be seen in inversion injury. It is for this reason that the 5th metatarsal base must be included in ankle series, especially when performed for an inversion injury.
