Presentation

Clicking CMC-I prosthesis during thumb movement. Plain radiographs showed no abnormalities so fluoroscopy images during flexion and extension of the thumb were requested.

Patient Data

Age: 55
Gender: Female

Fluoroscopy images during flexion and extension of the thumb show continuous subluxation and subsequent reduction of the head of the phalangeal prosthesis component.

Case Discussion

The prior plain radiographs (not shown) were normal, so additional fluoroscopy images during flexion and extension of the thumb were requested to confirm the suspected prosthesis subluxation.

Fluoroscopy can be a useful tool for the evaluation of suspected prosthesis complication if plain radiographs are normal.
