First metatarsophalangeal joint shows joint space narrowing, subchondral sclerosis, marginal osteophytes and multiple intra-articular osseous loose bodies. Mild overlying soft tissue swelling and hallux valgus are noted.
Case Discussion
The first metatarsophalangeal joint is the commonest site of degenerative osteoarthritis in the foot. When associated with limited movement, it is called hallux rigidus. intra-articular osseous loose bodies result from repetitive microtrauma or synovial chondrometaplasia 1.
