First trimester oligohydramnios

Case contributed by Dr Maulik S Patel

Antenatal early pregnancy scan at 5-6 weeks

Patient Data

Age: 5-6 wks gestation
Gender: Female

1st USG in primi patient. Single intra-uterine gestation sac and fetal pole present. Cardiac activity present - 111 beats / min.

Case Discussion

Size difference between gestational sac and crown-rump length is less than 5 mm. This is known as 'First trimester oligohydramnios'. There is increased risk of early pregnancy failure in such cases.

6 days after 1st USG - c/o spotting. USG showed no cardiac activity.
