Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male

Lumbar spine

mri

Well-defined thin-walled small (<5 mm) ovoid fluid intensity lesion confined within ligamentum flavum on right side at L4/L5 level, producing posterior indentation upon thecal sac.

No wall thickening, internal septation/hemorrhage or bony erosion is evident.

Case Discussion

The cyst is centered within the ligamentum flavum on right side, well away from facet joint and disc. Thus, it is easily identified as flaval in origin. No septations, calcification or hemorrhage is apparent, which means it is not a "complex" cyst.
