Presentation

Trauma to the neck followed by quadriparesis

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female

Hyperflexion fracture of C5 vertebral body with retropulsion squeezing the cervical cord against the posterior neural arch and resulting in cord edema extending from C3 to C6. No cord transection.

Case Discussion

Diagnosis: Flexion tear drop fracture of C5 and traumatic cord edema. (Unstable hyperflexion injury of cervical spine)
