Focal areas of signal intensity and brainstem glioma in NF-1

Presentation

Weakness, seizure, skin nodules

Patient Data

Age: 9 years
Gender: Female

There are multiple T2/FLAIR hyperintensities foci at the bilateral globi pallidi, and thalami, and internal capsule, and mesencephalon, without restricted diffusion ( not shown) or mass effect.

Well circumscribed High signal intensity of brainstem is consistent with a brainstem glioma.

Case Discussion

This is a known case of neurofibromatosis type 1, bright areas on T2-WI identified in the basal gangelia more prominent at the left globus pallidus,thalami and internal capsul and brainstem are reffered as focal areas of signal intensity (FASI).

Brain stem glioma is noted too.
