Knee pain.
Patient Data
A small localized nodular synovial proliferation is seen indenting the superolateral aspect of the infra-patellar Hoffa's pad of fat, it is seen demonstrating hypointense T1 and hyperintense STIR / PD fat suppression signal. It measures 14 x 13 x 11 mm in its main diameters.
Mild joint effusion.
No meniscal tear. Intact cruciate and collateral ligaments. Intact articular cartilage. No marrow signal abnormality.

Editor's note: per the 2020 WHO Soft Tissue and Bone Tumors Classification (5th ed.), the recommended terminology is tenosynovial giant cell tumor with pigmented villonodular synovitis no longer recommended (although it remains in common use).
