Focal uterine adenomyosis

Presentation

Anemic with menorrhagia. The ultrasound of the pelvis identified a large uterus with anterior wall thickening and heterogenicity like a pseudo-mass.

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female
mri

Enlarged uterus (90 x 100 x 120 mm) with a globular appearance and heterogeneous parenchymal signal intensity.

Multiple hyperintense foci in the anterior myometrium associated with focal anterior bulging of the myometrium.

Broadening of the transition zone of the anterior myometrium (>12 mm).

Case Discussion

Adenomyosis (or uterine adenomyosis) is a common uterine condition of ectopic endometrial tissue in the myometrium, sometimes considered a spectrum of endometriosis. Although most commonly asymptomatic, it may present with menorrhagia and dysmenorrhea.
