Cervical Spine

mri

C6/7 left posterolateral disc extrusion, indenting the left anterolateral aspect of the corresponding cervical cord segment and extending through left C6/7 exit foramen compressing left C6 nerve root.

C7/T1 posterior central disc protrusion, indenting the ventral epidural fat with no cord or foraminal compromise.

Mild spondylodegenerative changes are noted, seen as decreased hydration signal of intervertebral discs.

Case Discussion

Disc extrusion is considered when the intervertebral disc has a broader dome than a neck. Foraminal extension is a rare form of intervertebral disc herniation. The patient's symptoms correspond to the compressed nerve root at its exit foramen level. The commonest level of occurrence in the cervical spine is at C6/7.
