Presentation
Long standing swelling of left forearm - called fibrous dysplasia on X-ray. Now acute pain and swelling on radial aspect of the distal forearm
Patient Data
Coarsening of trabecular pattern, cortical thickening and expansion with well-defined lytic areas and phleboliths.
Heterogeneous mass at the site of the patient's pain and swelling with peripheral blood flow
T1 hyperintense mass corresponding to the US abnormality shows typical features of subacute blood, i.e. thrombus. Note on the STIR and post Gd the extensive mesh of abnormal vessels in the soft tissues and muscle entering the bone consistent with a vascular malformation. Phleboliths are confirmed in the abnormal vessels as seen on the plain radiograph.
