Foreign body - chest wall

Case contributed by Dr Maulik S Patel

Labor work. Acute onset of bleeding from right anterior chest wall while working.

Patient Data

Age: 30
Gender: Male

Referred to rule out foreign body.

A tiny metal density is noted overlying right mid - lower zone.

At site of puncture wound, there is an echogenic focus  ( 1 mm ) just deep to skin.

Perifocal hypoechogenisity is noted.

Dopplar shows twinkle artifact.

Case Discussion

For metal density foreign body, radiography is the first investigation - to decide presence or absence of foreign body.

If foreign body is present, USG can be done next to localize it.

Foreign body with irregular surface shows twinkle artifact  which to localize foreign body as in this case.
