Presentation
Thorn injury to the right foot sole 2 to 3 months back. The patient presented with complaints of local pain and swelling.
Patient Data
There is a linear echogenic focus (10 mm length) in the region of clinically visible swelling. It is a foreign body (thorn fragment). Its medial tip is in the subcutaneous plane and superficial to the plantar fascia. The lateral tip is in the muscle. There is an irregular small collection (about 27 x 19 x 8 mm) in the muscle.
The photo shows a retrieved foreign body - a thorn fragment.
Case Discussion
A patient presented a history of thorn injury to the plantar foot region followed by local pain and swelling. The ultrasound shows a thorn fragment with a small local collection.
Surgical exploration revealed the foreign body with a small amount of serous fluid. The plantar fascia was intact.
