Foreign body granuloma and abscess

Presentation

1 month ago, the patient stepped onto an Allen key. An x-ray showed no bony abnormality, no foreign body. The wound healed, but now pain and swelling appeared again.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

In front of the I MTP joint and the flexor hallucis longus tendon, a hyperechogenic foreign body without acoustic shadowing, was found in the center of a hypoechogenic abscess.
(The foreign body was around 9 x 8  x 8 mm, it was around 9 mm deep from the surface, and the abscess was around 26 x 20 x 19 mm)

Case Discussion

1 month after the injury, the remaining foreign body caused an abscess, which the surgeon opened and cleaned. The foreign body was a small part from a slipper ( the patient during the injury wore slippers and the Allen key ran through it)
