Presentation
History of road traffic accident. Multiple skin abrasions on hand and leg for one month. Partial healing of palmar skin abrasion with local painless swelling. On examination, palpable hard swelling in thenar region.
Patient Data
At the site of swelling pointed by the patient (thenar eminence), there is a strong acoustic shadow by a curvilinear focus; measuring about 9 mm. It is present in the superficial most muscle of the thenar eminence. There is a surrounding hypoechoic rim but no collection.
Case Discussion
History and clinical examination raised the possibility of soft-tissue foreign body in the thenar eminence. Ultrasound confirmed foreign body. It was removed surgically, and was a gravel stone.
