Foreign body in ankle

Thorn injury - 5 days back to anterior - lateral aspect of ankle. Complaints of ankle - foot swelling.

Patient Data

Age: 50
Gender: Male

Linear echogenic focus is noted in  region of interest  - Foreign body.

Length - 21 mm.


- Distal tip is superficial in subcutenous plane. - 9 ,mm from skin

- Proximal tip is more deep to digitorum muscle.  It abutts distal tibial antero-lateral cortex - 12 mm from skin.

- FB is anterior and cranial to distal tibio-fibular joint.

- Directed to medially and cranially.


Tenosynovitis of flexure digitorum tendon is noted.

Ankle effusion is noted.


Photograph - 2 cm FB with a sheet like structure adjacent to it. The other  1 cm long Foreign body was not reported on US. It was superficial to the larger FB.
