Foreign body in stomach

Diagnosis almost certain

Presentation

A child with a sudden cough, shortness of breath, and an episode of vomiting. Suspected foreign body aspiration.

Patient Data

Age: 2 years old
Gender: Female
x-ray

Normal chest x-ray but in the left paravertebral region over the gastric bubble, there is a foreign body in the form of Barbie's slipper. No evidence of pneumoperitoneum or bowel obstruction.

Case Discussion

Ingested foreign bodies in children are common as the world is a curious place to young children, who will put anything and everything into their mouth, and will often inadvertently swallow.
