Foreign body induced metacarpophalangeal joint synovitis

Thorn injury to the dorsal aspect of the 3rd metacarpophalangeal joint region around two weeks ago.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

There is a linear echogenic focus (2 mm length) in the metacarpophalangeal joint on the dorsal side. It abuts metacarpal head.

There is synovial thickening with hypervascularity involving joint in palmer as well as dorsal recess.

There is no tendinosis/tenosynovitis.

Case Discussion

There are findings of a foreign body (thorn) in the 3rd metacarpophalangeal joint causing synovitis.
