Foreign body-induced metacarpophalangeal joint synovitis

Presentation

Thorn injury to the dorsal aspect of the 3rd metacarpophalangeal joint region around two weeks ealier.

Patient Data

Age: 55 years
Gender: Male

There is a linear echogenic focus 2 mm length in the metacarpophalangeal joint on the dorsal side abutting the metacarpal head. Synovial thickening with hyperemia involving joint in palmar as well as dorsal recess.

Case Discussion

There are findings of a foreign body (thorn) in the 3rd metacarpophalangeal joint causing synovitis.
