Foreign body induced synovitis of finger

Presentation

Thorn injury to index finger near MCP - 8 mths back. C/o swelling over middle phalanx .

Patient Data

Age: 10 yrs
Ultrasound

Flexor tendon sheath shows mild effusion with synovial thickening over middle phalanx and distal interphalangeal joint region. No tendon thickening / tear is seen.

Two echogenic foci - foreign bodies are noted within tendon flexur tendon sheath. They are noted on plamer side of middle phalangeal head and neck. 2.5 mm sized foreign body - Superficial to flexure tendon.

 1.5 mm sized foreign body - Deep to to flexure tendon.

No joint effusion or cortical erosion is noted in index finger.
