Presentation

Right palm wood splinter injury - few months ago. Local bulge and mild pain. Normal finger movements and sensation.

Patient Data

Age: 15 years
Gender: Male

Clinical photograph

pathology

The bulge is difficult to appriciate in the photo. However, it was easily visible during finger movements. No skin changes/ healed puncture wound as the injury was about nine months ago.

ultrasound

A linear echogenic structure aligned to index finger flexor tendons. It is ulnar to the index flexor tendon.

The first short-axis cine-loop runs from the proximal to the distal direction. The second cine-loop runs side to side and aligned to flexor tendon long axis.

The first photo shows a foreign body surrounded by granuloma. The second photo shows a retrieved foreign body (wood splinter).
