Presentation

Ingested two metal butter knives and a toothbrush in the context of suicidal ideation. The patient was asymptomatic.

Patient Data

Age: 20 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

Two butter knives within the stomach which appear to extend into the proximal duodenum. There is also a toothbrush located within the stomach. No evidence of pneumoperitoneum to indicate perforation.

Case Discussion

The toothbrush was removed via gastroscopy. Attempted removal of the two metal butter knives via gastroscopy was unsuccessful. Subsequently, the two metal butter knives were retrieved laparoscopically.
