Presentation

History of a thorn injury to forefoot - 6 months ago. Complaining of painful nodule on plantar aspect of 2nd toe.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

There is a linear focus with two echogenic lines and central lucency; in plantar subcutaneous plane of 2nd toe; at the level of proximal interphalangeal joint. There is surrounding hypoechoic area showing vascularity. There is no tendon tear / joint effusion.

 

Case Discussion

Patient with history of thorn injury to fore foot presents with painful nodule on plantar aspect of 2nd toe. Ultrasound shows a focus with two echogenic lines and central lucency - A thorn foreign body. There is surrounding granuloma (hypoechoic area).

Surgery revealed thorn.
