Acute infarct of the left inferomedial hemi pons as evidenced by avid diffusion restriction. No hemosiderin deposition to suggest hemorrhage.
Tiny amount of small vessel ischemic change in the periventricular white matter.
Normal appearances of the cerebellum.
Fluid in the right mastoid air cells.
Case Discussion
MRI appearances in keeping with an acute left hemi pontine infarct (Foville syndrome). This patient depicts most of the focal neurological deficits of Foville syndrome.
This occurs due to occlusion of the paramedian branches of the basilar artery so is classified as a brainstem stroke.
