Presentation

Lump at the right hip region. Unknown cosmetic procedures performed in another country several years ago.

Patient Data

Age: 35 years
Gender: Female

Multiple linear and round T2 hyperintense / T1 hypointense structures are noted in the subcutaneous plane of bilateral gluteal regions indicating cosmetic free silicone injections/fillers.

Gravid uterus is noted.

Case Discussion

This case shows imaging findings of free silicone injections in the bilateral buttocks.

Free silicone injections are not approved for cosmetic purposes, but may be performed illegally or in other countries.

Silicone complications can be divided into focal (cellulitis, abscess, myositis, migration of the material, skin hyperpigmentation, fibrosis, subcutaneous nodules, granulomas, necrosis, ulceration, fistula) and systemic (hypersensitivity pneumonitis, silicone embolism syndrome, pulmonary edema, sepsis).
