Presentation

History of paranasal sinuses polyposis and suffering from recent left eye proptosis and diplopia.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

There are polypoid mucosal thickening and fluid in all paranasal sinuses with sinus cavities obliteration and erosion of the air cells septae in ethmoid air cells. A large lytic-expansile mass-like lesion containing partially dense fluid in the left side fronto-ethmoidal sinus compatible with mucocele is seen which is remarkably bulged within the left orbital cavity superonasal segment and has a mass effect on related extraocular muscles and eye globe and led to left side proptosis.

Case Discussion

One of the major complications of paranasal sinus polyposis is frontoethmoidal mucocele formation which has usually a direct effect on related orbital cavity content and can cause diplopia and proptosis like in this case. The fronto-ethmoidal sinus mucocele is usually treated with a micro-invasive procedure such as FESS.
