Functional assessment of penile implant using MRI

Case contributed by Chris O'Donnell
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Has developed a deviation or curve in the distal penis on inflation of penile device.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

On the inflated images there is asymmetry in prosthesis positions being slightly more distal on the left than the right leading to a "kink" in the glans to the right (arrow).  Note the difference in the volume of the prosthesis from deflated to inflated.

Case Discussion

Hydraulic inflatable penile prostheses work by transfer of fluid from a reservoir in the pelvis into two devices in the corpora cavernosum with activation using a device in the scrotum. In this case, the prosthesis position is such that there is distal penile distortion.
