Fungal sinusitis (allergic)

Presentation

Nasal obstruction, rhinorrhoea

Gender: Male
Modality: CT

Coronal NE-CT shows the typical appearance of allergic fungal sinusitis with unilateral involvement. The involved sinuses are expanded, and the material is centrally dense with a peripheral rim of low attenuation. The left ostiomeatal complex is obstructed. Note that there is no bone destruction or soft tissue involvement.

Case Discussion

Allergic fungal sinusitis is usually encountered in asthmatic patients. The invasive form is usually seen in immunocompromised patients.
