Urinary retention in a patient with a medical history of gallbladder adenocarcinoma.
Patient Data
Contracted gallbladder with calcified gallbladder wall.
Diffuse metastatic lesions throughout the liver, primarily in the lower portions of the right and left lobes.
Diffuse mixed lytic and blastic lesions are seen throughout the axial skeleton, consistent with an underlying diffuse metastatic disease.
Fecal impaction.
Mild constipation.
Case Discussion
Gallbladder cancer is a rare malignancy that is asymptomatic in the early stages. The prognosis is typically poor due to late presentation, tumor biology, and tumor location. Our patient, has a medical history of gallbladder cancer presented to the emergency department (ED) with acute urinary retention. She was found to be tachycardic upon ED arrival. The labs showed acute anemia. A CT scan of the abdomen and pelvis was performed, which revealed worsening metastasis. The family agreed to continue aggressive chemotherapy.
