Incidental finding of thickening at the fundus of the gallbladder.
Patient Data
There is focal soft tissue thickening at the fundus of the gallbladder. No local invasion. No lymphadenopathy. No gallstones evident.
The focal soft tissue thickening at the fundus is demonstrated on the B-mode imaging. There is a focal area of increased echogenicity with ring-down or 'comet-tail' artefact which is accentuated by power Doppler. This is characteristic of cholesterol deposition within focal adenomyomatosis.
Case Discussion
One role of imaging in the management of polypoid lesions of the gallbladder is to identify and dismiss benign entities with characteristic imaging appearances from further surveillance or surgery. Here, adenomyomatosis can be confirmed by US based on the characteristic location and imaging findings.
