Gallbladder mucocele

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Mild right upper quadrant pain. No other associated symptom.

Patient Data

Age: 65 years
Gender: Male
ultrasound

Distended gall bladder completely filled with thick mucinous fluid/sludge. The gall bladder wall thickness is normal and there is no peri-cholecystic edema. 

Case Discussion

Mucoceles develop due to excessive accumulation of mucus. It may be due to an impacted stone in the gallbladder neck (most commonly) or cystic duct, or decreased gallbladder motility.
