The gallbladder wall shows mild thickening with few serpentine, cystic structures within the wall and the pericholecystic bed. These structures show color flow within them.
Case Discussion
The findings are suggestive of gallbladder varices.
Gallbladder varices are a rare form of portosystemic shunt that develop in patients with portal hypertension. Ultrasonography with color doppler is a highly sensitive imaging modality for the diagnosis of gallbladder varices. It shows "serpentine" areas of venous flow within the gallbladder wall or in the pericholecystic bed.
