Presentation
Past medical history of liver cirrhosis with portal hypertension.
Patient Data
Marked splenomegaly (span: 16 cm) with multiple splenic foci of low signal intensity on T1 and T2, they are tiny innumerable (Gamna-Gandy bodies).
Cirrhotic liver. Mild free ascites. Multiple dilated venous collaterals are seen at splenic hilar, lower paraesophageal and lienorenal regions.
Case Discussion
Gamna-Gandy bodies or splenic siderotic nodules of the spleen are most commonly encountered in portal hypertension. The pathophysiological process is the result of micro hemorrhage resulting in hemosiderin and calcium deposition followed by fibroblastic reaction.
