Ganglion cyst - knee

Swelling on lateral aspect of knee - 4 - 5 yrs. Surgery - 5 mths back. Recurrence - 1 mth. No foot drop.

Patient Data

Age: about 45 yrs
Gender: Female

Soft tissue swelling on lateral asepct of knee.


Lobualated anechoic cyst with few thin septa is noted on lateral aspect of knee.

Size - 26 x 26 x 17 mm.

It is superficial to lateral collateral ligament which is intact.

Biceps femoris tendon is deep to posterior part of cyst.

Common peroneal nerve is about 1 cm posterior to the cyst.

Visualized peripheral part of lateral meniscus - Intact without extrusion.

No neck extension from cyst could be localized.
