Presentation

Gastric balloon fitted 10 days ago, ongoing vomiting, reduced bowel movement ? bowel obstruction, ? migrating gastric balloon ? over inflated gastric balloon

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
x-ray

There is a gastric balloon in situ within the left upper abdomen, in the expected position of the stomach. This measures up to 14.5cm in craniocaudal diameter. There are no further dilated loops of small or large bowel. No pneumoperitoneum. No osseous lesion.

Case Discussion

Patients with a gastric balloon in situ may undergo radiography as a first line imaging investigation to investigate for complications including displacement and deflation.
