Gastric band induced megaesophagus presenting as a neck mass

Presentation

Past history of left thyroidectomy. Now left neck mass, losing weight ++, no vomiting.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Female

Echogenic left neck mass. Posterior acoustic shadowing. 

Oblique reconstruction showing esophageal dilatation down to a laparoscopic gastric band - note stomach not distended. 

Lap band is shown with no contrast passing through. 

Case Discussion

The patient was disappointed when the lap band port was aspirated to treat her esophageal obstruction as she progressively regained 20 kilograms in weight!
