Gastric duplication cyst

Presentation

A newborn with an onset of nonbilious vomiting and a palpable mass.

Patient Data

Gender: Female
X-ray

Abdominal plain radiography shows a large soft tissue circumferential mass displacing the bowel to the left, 

Ultrasound

Ultrasound reveals a cystic mass with the double wall sign (inner echogenic layer and an outer hypoechoic layer).

MRI

MRI T2-weighted sequence demonstrates a cystic mass with close contact with the gastric pylorus.

Photo

Photomicrograph shows histopathologic features that are characteristics of a gastrointestinal duplication: an inner smooth muscle layer and an outer atrophic gastric mucosal lining. Intraoperative picture - duplication cyst between the gastric antrum and duodenum.
