Gastroesophageal varices

Patient with portal hypertension (cirrhosis). No history of hemorrhage was related.

Patient Data

Age: 50
Gender: Male

CT Abdomen

Signs of cirrhotic liver which is reduced in volume, splenomegaly and prominent collateral venous circulation around the distal oesophagus. 

Case Discussion

Spontaneous portal-systemic collateral pathways (also called varices) develop via enlargement of preexisting anastomoses between the portal and systemic venous system.
