PET-CT

Nuclear medicine

FDG avid large soft tissue mass lesion is seen projecting from the lateral gastric wall into the gastro-splenic region, with SUV max 16. The mass is fairly defined showing internal areas of breaking down. The mass is abutting the splenic hilum with no separable fat planes in-between. The mass is indenting the gastric wall yet with no significant encroachment upon its lumen. Few small nodules are seen adjacent to the large mass.

Case Discussion

GISTs are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract.

GISTs are FDG avid tumors on PET-CT. PET-CT is usually used for initial staging or treatment response assessment.
