Presentation
Patient presented with abdominal pain and underwent MRI for evaluation for inflammatory bowel disease.
Patient Data
There are multiple images of the aorta lining with the aorta along the anterior posterior axis of the abdomen.
Annotated image with some change in the window. The arrow heads are pointing to the aortic ghosts lining with the aorta along the anterior posterior axis of the abdomen. Note that the ghosts extend beyond the field of view.
Case Discussion
This is a typical example of phase-encoded artifact secondary to aortic pulsation. The ghost images of the aorta are: discrete, well defined, lining with the aorta along the short axis of the abdomen (AP axis), regular interval distance between them (depend on the time of repetition), and extending beyond the field of view anteriorly and posteriorly. These features help recognize them and not to confuse them with any pathology.
